This was actually a good read, as I haven't read the book. I enjoyed this section about the Jewish origins of Gnosticism. (though I am guessing Mr. Birger did not give this site author permission to copy so much out of the book for online presentation)

Thanks for the link, I'll definitely be reading it with interest (I can't believe I only discovered this thread till now), as I am of the view that Gnosticism has Jewish origins, I'd love to check out Birger's as well.

Dr. Birger was a featured speaker at the Apostolic Johannite Church's conclave in Denver in 2011. We recorded at least one of the lectures, and have posted them on Youtube:
